reading and talk with simon(e) van saarloos: against ageism, a queer manifesto

should we abolish age? on saturday 8 february, we are very excited to do a collective reading & group conversation with simon(e) van saarloos! we're diving into their mind-blowing 'against ageism, a queer manifesto'. the night is also a celebration of a new cover of the book!

the manifesto starts with an experience of childhood sexual abuse, and moves on to dissect the ways in which constructions of ‘age’ and ‘youth’ function to support and reproduce white supremacist patriarchy.

simon(e) van saarloos engages with age and time in relation to crip and queer theory, anti-carceral approaches to harm and colonial notions of linear time.

we will start with a collective reading session of some excerpts of the book, followed with a group conversation. you can buy your copy @ rokko (and be the first to get the *new* edition!).

we try to have this conversation in a safer way and invite everyone to read our safer space document below. during the night, feel free to communicate your needs, take a break, or choose your own level of participation.

nika looman will fuel the conversation with insights from their research on queer sexuality in later life.

there will be vegan empanadas for the hungry!
