Soothing to the soul
Red, een vuur demon, crasht op de boerderij van Katy en haar groottante Ann. Red is helemaal verloren en onzeker over wie die is en wat hun doel is. Maar gelukkig wordt Red vlug opgenomen in het huishouden van Katy en Auntie Ann en blijft Red leven en werken op de boerderij. Dankzij het enthousiasme van Katy en onder het toeziend oog van Auntie Ann, begint Red antwoorden te vinden op de existentiële vragen die hen plagen.
Ik hou zo ontzettend veel van deze personages! Kinderen in comics kunnen soms overkomen als overdreven schattig, maar bij Katy is dit gelukkig niet het geval. Katy is gewoon een leuk bijfiguur en Auntie Ann is streng maar met het hart op de goede plaats. En RED! We volgen Red terwijl die groeit en leert en steeds meer zichzelf leert kennen en het is prachtig om te mogen aanschouwen.
(Ik was ook heel erg gecharmeerd door de dieren op de boerderij.)
De bevinding waar Red op het einde van het boek op komt is een prachtig einde van de reis van zelfbewustzijn die begon met hun crash. Het boek is dan wel gedaan, maar er heerst het gevoel dat hun verhaal pas begint. Ik wens Red het beste toe.

Red, a fire demon, crash lands on the farm of Katy and her great-aunt Ann. Unsure of who they are, why they ended up on the farm and what their purpose is, Red is lost and alone. But luckily not for long! They are seamlessly brought into fold of the little family/household Katy and Auntie Ann have and they end up staying and working at the farm. Thanks to Katy's enthusiasm and under the stern eye of Auntie Ann, Red starts figuring out the existential questions that are haunting them.
I love these characters so much! Kids in comics can be a bit twee, but luckily in Heat that's not the case. Katy is just such a fun presence and Auntie Ann is stern but has a big heart underneath that tough exterior. And RED! We watch Red grow and learn and come into their own more and more and it's beautiful to witness.
(I also find the farm animals very charming.)
The conclusion that Red comes to at the end of this book is such a wonderful note to end their internal journey in this book on. While the book is over, you feel like their story is just beginning. I wish Red all the best.
